Melody Sims is a recent graduate of the BFA Studio Art Program at Bowling Green State University in 2023. She received her Associate Degree in Arts and Science from The Ohio State University Lima Branch in 2017. Her original plan was a painting and drawing focus, but once she took her first metals course, she was hooked and switched to three-dimensional art. Sims now works with metals, glass, and printmaking. Her work revolves around the declining bee population and women’s fertility rights. She has used jewelry and sculpture as a way to create conversation for these topics. Flowers have been a huge component for her pieces for both bee population and women’s fertility topics, finding inspiration from Judith Kinghorn’s flower and nature metal fabrication. Sims has served as the Student Metal Arts Council treasurer and vice president, has won first place and honorable mention in the metals category at the BGSU Undergraduate Art Show and has displayed her "Sakura Breeze" glass light sculpture in the President Suite’s Exhibition.
